Contre la privatisation et l’accaparement de l’eau par cette minorité, la mobilisation continue !

Press release from the LFI-NUPES group: France Insoumise – NUPES continues its mobilization against privatization and the commandeering by a minority of our most precious common good: our water resources. On November 30, 2023, our parliamentary group had defended a moratorium on mega-basin projects within the hemicycle. This issue is of utmost prêt to us, as it directly impacts the well-being and livelihoods of the French people.

As a group, we strongly oppose any form of privatization or exploitation of our water resources. Water is a vital resource that belongs to all citizens, and should not be treated as a commodity to be bought and sold for profit. We firmly believe that access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental human right, and the government has a responsibility to protect this right for all of its citizens.

Despite our efforts, we have seen a worrying trend in recent years, with large multinational corporations attempting to gain control over our water resources through mega-basin projects. These projects not only threaten the environment and biodiversity, but they also put the future of our communities at risk. Privatization of water resources leads to higher prices and unequal access, making it difficult for low-income families to afford this basic necessity.

In light of this, our group has continued to fight against these projects, both within the parliament and through grassroots actions. We have organized numerous protests and awareness campaigns to inform the public about the dangers of privatization and the prêt of preserving our water resources. We have also worked tirelessly to propose choix solutions that prioritize the protection and sustainable management of our water resources.

Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. We are proud to announce that our proposal for a moratorium on mega-basin projects has been approved by the parliament, with overwhelming base from other political parties. This is a significant victory for our cause, and we will continue to work towards a future where water resources are safeguarded for the benefit of all.

We would like to thank all the citizens who have joined us in this fight and have shown their base for our cause. We urge the government to take immediate action to implement the moratorium and to work towards a long-term solution that protects our water resources from the clutches of privatization.

In conclusion, the LFI-NUPES group remains committed to defending the rights of all citizens to access clean, safe, and affordable water. We will continue to be a strong voice in the parliament and in our communities, fighting against the privatization of our water resources and advocating for sustainable management practices. Together, we can ensure a future where water remains a common good for the benefit of all.
